Hello Again Fantastic Followers!

We’re back with another weekly update! This newsblog, we hope the sneak peeks and cool info will help to make your day bright and full of joy! We really hope you guys enjoy this edition of our newsletter and we can’t wait to share more with you over the coming weeks.

1) More Work on Our Christmas Story -

From the Character Art Division

We’re coming at you with another glimpse behind-the-curtain in the world of illustration. If you’re an illustrator in the art world, you are in the business of design. Whether you’re designing props, characters, landscapes, any of the other myriads of things that may make up a story, there’s a lot of different iterations that your work goes through before the final product. A lot of that tends to be redrawing the same things over in over, sometimes in new poses, to see how well things will look within a scene or story overall. One of these design elements is something called a turn-around. Usually, turn-arounds are done for the potential characters in a story and are finished up when you’ve really solidified the look of the character. The idea is that you want to draw the character at a bunch of different angles to make sure that you can draw the character consistently in any scene and in any perspective. So, we thought it would be cool to show you the turn-around for one of the Barrow boys, Bryson. We think he’s super cute and hope that, maybe someday, he can be a real character in a fully backed children’s book if our Christmas book dummy gets approved by a publisher. In the meantime, we thought it’d be cool to show you some more of our work as we continue to put this dummy together. Be sure to check in weekly for more glimpses at what’s happening here at Bear & Pixie Art Studio!

2) This Show Has Us Asking the Question….What If? –

From the Department of Animated Storytelling

This week, Pixie and I wanted to talk about a new animated show that just finished up a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t seen it yet, you have got to check out this show What If…? on Disney+. This show, which is inspire by one of my favorite comics that I read religiously growing up, plays with the stories we all love from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and alters them ever so slightly to give a refreshing twist to our favorite stories from all of the Marvel films that have been released over the last 14 years. This show is a fun ride and leaves you waiting anxiously for the next episode to see what story their going to tell next. At times, the show’s writing can be a little lackluster, but this show still knows how to do some great character writing and also has some amazing sequences of animation that definitely make this worth it to watch. This show gets a 7 out of 10 rating on the Bear & Pixie Art Studio scale. So, if you’re looking for a fun show to watch with your family (this show is more designed for middle school age and up kids in our opinion) then this is the show for you. 3) Artist Shout-Out

From the Artist Relations Department

This week, our artist shoutout goes to artist Amanda MacFarlane on Instagram. Amanda is a current Visual Development and Character Design artist who freelances for Warner Bros currently and you can tell because her artwork speaks for itself. Amanda’s art leaps off the page with her amazing use of color, stellar eye for design, and the life that comes through in her clean, controlled line. Please make sure you give her a follow on her Instagram, check out her website for more of her art, and look at her awesome shop on Etsy as she deserves it! [We are not sponsored by Amanda MacFarlane. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

4) It’s a Jet! No, a Helicopter! It’s Both?! -

From the Office of Vehicular Development

One thing I saw as I was browsing the internet was this awesome jet/helicopter hybrid that’s been in the works for the last few years by the XTI Aircraft Company. It’s so cool to see people trying to innovate in the realm of technology and transportation in our world today. As I continue to learn how to illustrate, I can’t wait to start learning how to design my own crazy vehicles for our different stories and other projects in the future. I absolutely can’t wait to join Pixie in the illustration field that’s for sure but, in the meantime, cool designs like this will have to do. If you’d like to learn more about this bad-boy, the link is below!

5) ROM the Space Knight Art You’ve Got to See! -

From the Department of Character Awareness

For this week’s awesome fanart, I came across this awesome image of a comic book character that I don’t think gets enough love. This guy here is ROM the Space Knight, a comic book character that started out his existence as a toy before he made the move to Marvel Comics in the 80’s. ROM’s comics are usually a fun read where you can always count on some crazy space adventures, awesome action, and interesting storytelling. This art was made by artist Dakota Alexander who has a lot of other awesome art of popular characters on their Instagram. Be sure to show Dakota’s Instagram some love by giving it a follow and maybe check out some ROM comics while you’re at it in the other link below. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find a brand-new comic that you like out of the deal! [We are not sponsored by Dakota Alexander or anyone else. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]
