1) The Barrow House for our Christmas Story! -

From the Environmental Design Department

This week’s sneak peek of our Christmas Story gives all you lovely people a super special glimpse behind the curtain when it comes to our process of designing a brand-new story. A lot of times when people think about creating a story, they don’t think about all the different background pieces that will be a part of the story itself. This means you have to write or think about every facet of your characters and their lives. You have to come up with what their likes and dislikes are, where do they live, what does their house looks like, do they have a pet, and so many more aspects of their fictional lives and characterization. In this post, we wanted to show you all the different designs Pixie came up with for the Northeastern American house that the Barrows live in during the events of our little Christmas story. Next week, we’ll talk more about this idea of having to design everything in such a deep way by talking about props! If you’re interested in seeing that next post where we go in-depth in our process to coming up with the different props that will be seen throughout our Christmas story, then stay tuned for next week’s newsblog!

2) A Fun Movie that Touches on Some High-Level Ideas –

From the Department of Animated Storytelling

This last weekend, Pixie and I went to the theater and watched the brand-new animated movie Ron’s Gone Wrong. This cute movie, developed by 20th Century Studios, follows a young middle schooler named Barney as he gets a new BBot that isn’t like any other BBot out there. Throughout the film, Barney learns what it truly means to be a friend, the dangers of broadcasting your life on social media, and many other interesting themes throughout the movie. One of the things that impressed Pixie and I was the willingness to explore different topics that might even go over some kids’ heads. An example of this is how the movie touched on the idea of “surveillance capitalism” (the idea that different companies gather information on customers by surveilling their buying habits, posts, and online presence to gain information about those peoples likes, dislikes, beliefs, and more) and how easily that can be turned on the populace to become just like the Orwellian idea of “Big Brother.” However, even though this movie does a good job with highlighting some of these themes throughout, it often falls short in quality as it undercuts itself with bizarre, badly timed humor throughout. One other positive, in our opinion, were the characters of Barney and Ron the Robot. Out of all the characters of the film, they were the most consistent, had lots of endearing moments together, and felt authentic for the duration of the film. Other characters had those kinds of moments too but were often undercut all for the sake of some lame jokes here and there. We do think this movie is worth watching. Although, if we had the choice to see this in theaters or watch it when it came out on streaming services, we would wait to watch it until it came out for free. With all that being said, we would give this film an official Bear & Pixie rating of 6 out of 10. We definitely recommend you check out this movie, but we suggest you wait until you can watch it for free. [WE ARE NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. 3) Artist Shout-Out

From the Artist Relations Department

This week, our artist shoutout who goes by the name of Tasia on Instagram. Tasia is a current artist who does a lot amazing character art on her social media accounts. Her art is full of brilliant colors, incredible lighting, and wonderfully creative designs that you absolutely must see! One thing that she likes to do frequently is to take various objects and turn them into dresses that her own stylized characters wear. This idea is so unique and leaves you checking her account regularly to see what she may come up with next. We highly recommend that you follow her on Instagram and check out her page there. On her Instagram, she has links to her Linktree and Store, and if you feel so inclined, please check those out as well. [We are not sponsored by Tasia. We are only fans and genuinely wanted to give a shoutout.]

4) We’ve Been Playing a Whole Lot of Games Lately! -

From the Recreational Activities Division

Whenever we have a little free-time, Pixie and I like to try and find video games to play together. One of these games has been Ori and the Blind Forest. This game captivated us instantly. With its beautiful art style, engaging story, well-developed platforming mechanics; we have been engrossed in playing this game. However, since we are so busy in our lives, it has taken us way longer than we would like to even just get part of the way through the story. However, because of how good it already is, we highly recommend you all play this game. There is a sequel that has already been released as well that you can check out after beating this one! Another positive factor that this game has going for it is that it’s available to play on all current consoles and PC. So, if you’re a platformer fan looking for a great Metroid-vania style gaming experience, you should definitely check out Ori!
