Another weekly update is here! We’re coming at you with all our regular topics with some peaks of our current work, some cool things that are catching our eye, and some other stuff we think you might find particularly fun! We really hope you guys enjoy this edition of our newsblog and we can’t wait to share more with you over the coming weeks.

1) Here’s the Last Member of the Barrow Family! -

From the Character Creation Division

This week’s edition focuses in on the character development of the last member we wanted to show you of the Barrow family. Say hello to Benjamin “Ben” Barrow, the dad of the Barrow family. Ben is a very sarcastic, fun-loving, and thoughtful dad who loves to spend time with his wife and kids. In the story, he and his family have one of the craziest Christmas’ ever and must figure out how to still has the perfect Christmas. In the next updates, we’ll be giving you more sneak peeks on this Christmas story and how the development of it is progressing so stay tuned to all things Bear & Pixie Art Studio for more!

2) Gripping Visual Storytelling –

From the Department of Animated Storytelling

Recently, Pixie and I have started watching a new animated show in our free time. Primal, developed by Genndy Tartakovsky (famous creator behind Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and more animated goodness) is an incredible show with gripping animation, creative storytelling, and great atmosphere. This show takes a lot of inspiration from the classic Samurai Jack episodes that had no dialogue in them. This show, in the same vein, has not a single word of dialogue throughout any of its episodes. You would think that this drastically impacts the show in a negative way but, in all actuality, it makes the show intensely captivating. As you watch each episode, you just want to know what will happen next to the main characters of Spear (an ancient caveman) and Fang (a blue T-Rex). Throughout each installment, you’re left on the edge of your seat as the story unfolds in a uniquely visceral way that is unlike any other show out there. Be careful though, this show is extremely graphic and violent so it’s something you might want to wait to watch with younger viewers until they are older. We haven’t finished the first season yet, but we already want to recommend that anyone who’s interested to check it out. It is worth the watch! [WE ARE NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. 4) Blazing the Oregon Trail! -

From the Recreational Activities Division

As I was sitting at home one day, I had a massive swell of nostalgia well up in my heart for an old computer game that I used to play in elementary school. Oregon Trail Deluxe (1992) was a game that my friends and I couldn’t wait to play when we had free time in computer class. We would race to see who could cross the Oregon Trail the fastest while also keeping the most of their party alive. We would use our friends’ names as our wagon members for the journey. Often, you’d hear somebody say “Jerry, an eagle grabbed you and flew away!” or “Alicia, you died of dysentery!” It led to some hilarious moments where you tried your best to cross a river with your wagon only to have it sink in the river and lose your supplies. In some cases, you really had to think strategically about your resources and how you used them. If you haven’t played it, this game always guarantees a fun time so check it out! There are links below to the game itself and an emulator you’ll need to run it on your PC.
